MOZER is a Russian brand of musical instruments and accessories belonging to the Penza-based company Zarya-Plus. Its parent company, Zarya, has manufactured tuning mechanisms, components and instrument cases for more than twenty years. Its range subsequently expanded to include strings, gusli, lyres, kalimbas, cajóns, percussion and jaw harps.

MOZER jaw harps are produced serially and do not represent a single maker’s design tradition. The range brings together interpretations of Altai komuses, Russian jaw harps and Tatar kubyzes based on instruments by several different makers.

The jaw harps represented in the catalogue vary in geometry but share several general characteristics: a quiet, subdued sound, a relatively clean but narrow spectrum and low sensitivity. Their acoustic properties differ noticeably from those of the handmade instruments whose forms served as prototypes. The restrained timbre leaves the performer’s articulation clearly audible, although the instruments offer a limited dynamic and tonal range.
