Kirill Petrov
Kirill Petrov is a folk arts and crafts master and blacksmith from the Suntarsky District of Yakutia. In 2021, he won first place in the Yakut khomus category at the Chap Uus republican competition. Petrov also works with other traditional objects: in 2019, his hunting knife was named the best at the Darkhan Uus blacksmithing exhibition, while his traditional Yakut bows have received recognition at republican competitions.
Petrov’s khomuses are light in construction and bright in tone, with high sensitivity and a wide dynamic range. Their rich yet balanced timbre extends from moderately low to high frequencies, while their smooth decay creates a sense of sustained sound. The reed design is well suited to widely used traditional Yakut playing techniques.
