Khomus Petrov

Light and bright, with high sensitivity and timbre on the border of colorful saturation and melodic uniformity, Kirill Petrov’s khomus performs all everyday, technical work for the player, focusing attention directly on musical creativity. The sound palette of the instrument (or rather, its availability) is not inferior to the most verified samples of jaw harps of modern Russian masters. A wide dynamic range allows you to play quietly and loudly; the spectrum extends to moderately low to high frequencies; the timbre is noticeably enriched by deep, sharp tremors of air. The curve of attenuation of sound is very beautiful and creates a feeling of smooth extension, disposing to the simple listening of individual sounds. The structure of the reed is well suited for strokes common in Yakutia, but complex alternations of strokes lead to the usual pollution of sound and reduced legibility. At low and medium volume, there is a slight humming caused by the long and relatively soft reed trigger.
