Rustam Khohlov
Rustam Khokhlov is a temir-khomus maker from Abakan. He worked in Vladislav Kokov’s workshop and continued the modern Khakass jaw harp tradition established there. Khokhlov’s first instruments appeared in the Oberton Pro catalogue in late 2011, when he was just beginning his work as a maker.
His temir-khomuses are closely related to the instruments of Tamir Khomatov. They are characterised by blue-green blued frames, long, flexible reed triggers and a loud, rough sound rich in rattling and hoarse side-tones. In his earliest batches, Khokhlov experimented with the position of the reed relative to the decks.
