Jung Raibhandari
Jung Raibhandari is a maker of Nepalese murchungas based in Kathmandu. His instruments are represented in the catalogue by the JR series. Many of the model names refer to places in Nepal, including the JR865 “Kathmandu” and JR780 “Ramdung”.
Raibhandari’s murchungas typically have moderately soft, medium-register reeds, a reasonably clean and even timbre, and good responsiveness. The shape of the reed bend makes strokes towards the player more comfortable. Its thin, rough tip can also produce noticeable finger rustle.
Individual instruments vary considerably in pitch and sound quality. The best examples have a clean voice and good sensitivity, while some develop a split tone during the reverse movement of the reed. Raibhandari’s murchungas should therefore be evaluated and selected individually.
Warning! Overwhelming majority of jaw harps presented are single pieces or made by hand, in very small quantities, instruments. There is no jaw harp factories exists; every one is unique in details, in different degree.
