Dmitriy Popov

Dmitry Popov is a musician, engineer, sound engineer and developer of electronic equipment for musicians based in Yekaterinburg. His work combines experience as a performer with the design of devices for acoustic instruments.

Before developing the electric jaw harp, Popov worked on piezoelectric pickups and self-contained amplification systems. He designed universal circuit boards for kalimbas, gusli, violins, hangs, tongue drums and cajons, as well as compact loudspeakers for performing musicians.

In 2026, Popov introduced the DP1523 “Vibronans” electric jaw harp, a universal electromagnetic drive for a conventional jaw harp. The system excites and sustains the reed’s vibrations without continuous striking, while leaving control over articulation and breathing to the player. The electronic unit allows the frequency, phase and volume to be adjusted, while the mount can be adapted to jaw harps with different frame geometries.
