Bakyt Narzhigitov

About the maker and their creative work.

Bakyt Narzhigitov

Bakyt Narzhigitov is a temir-komuz maker from Bishkek. In his early work, he followed the traditional Kyrgyz design with a long reed bend. At the same time, he began making instruments with a short bend for two-way playing; models played by blowing later became a separate direction in his work.

Narzhigitov steadily expanded the range of his instruments. As early as 2020, he arranged tuned temir-komuzes into series by register and later began creating coordinated sets, including a full chromatic scale spanning one octave. Technically demanding contrabass and subcontrabass instruments occupy a special place in his work. In early 2022, the maker substantially redesigned the frames, reeds and cases.

Alongside low-pitched instruments, Narzhigitov experiments with miniature, fully playable temir-komuzes. He decorates the wooden cases himself, using a laser to apply the Sun symbol—an emblem that has become a recognisable feature of his work.
