Quiet jaw harps with a fairly smooth, muffled sound. Highly tuned specimens look quite melodic, although this is more a consequence of the large size of the gaps (and therefore the limited spectrum) than the calibration of the design. From The finger catches the reed much more strongly, producing a louder and sharper sound. When you touch it, you can clearly see the rustle.
