Which jaw harp is best for a beginner?

Prokopyev Khomus

One of the most roaring jaw harps, Prokopyev’s khomus has a soft reed and is easy to control in a variety of ways. Deep diaphragm breathing from it extracts deep, guttural, low sounds; with the maximum decrease and acceleration of the air flow up to its complete stop and play with the tip of the tongue, the frequency increases significantly. Fast two-way play requires very precise strikes, otherwise unwanted vibrations appear. You also need to develop the right grip - rather thin frame arms at first will strive to jump off your teeth, especially in excitement.

An interesting model with a unique sound and, after a little training, easy to handle.

Different specimens differ markedly from each other in sizes up to 10 mm length, gap and slightly - the density of the reed, i.e. You can choose both smoother, lower in sound, and sharper / brighter / taller, but these differences do not reach the level of differences between the models of different masters.

In addition, I want to note the case of an interesting shape, qualitatively processed and functional. Together with the playing characteristics and neat appearance of the instrument itself, it can become an excellent gift, complementing any ringing jaw harp.
