The small, pleasant-looking kubyz is quite sonorous and creates a friendly atmosphere thanks to its soft reed. Its thin joint produces a wealth of overtones when struck away from you, and a constant background hum is audible. Some examples have a reed bent away from the frame, creating a humming sound when played without being struck, resulting in an even louder hum. The frame is unusually thin and flat—it rests flat on the teeth, without any vertical wedge. A magnet is included, which is held to the reed solely by its magnetic field; it lowers the frequency by 5 steps and partially masks the hum.
