Bhupendra

Bhupendra is a Nepalese murchunga maker based in Kathmandu. The Oberton Pro catalogue describes him as one of the more meticulous Nepalese makers: his instruments display more careful and consistent workmanship than commonly available souvenir murchungas.

The BP59 murchunga represented in the catalogue has moderately wide but even gaps. Its sound is quiet and smooth, with controllable harmonic overtones remaining discernible within the even timbre. The reed mechanics allow comfortable strokes in either direction.

The BP59 is suitable for beginners and can be used to develop melodic playing, overtone control and basic sound-production techniques. It is a simple, accessible instrument whose workmanship is a step above that of typical Nepalese souvenir murchungas.
