Dinislam Khayretdinov

Dinislam Khayretdinov is a Bashkir kubyz maker and performer from Ufa. He names Robert Abdrakhmanovich Zagretdinov as his teacher; Zagretdinov lived nearby and introduced him to a circle of musicians and makers from different countries. Even before beginning regular production of his own instruments, Khayretdinov performed professionally on the kubyz at cultural and educational events.

By 2018, Khayretdinov’s small five-person workshop was making both series-produced and one-off instruments. The kubyzes covered a wide range of notes and were paired with burl-wood cases. At the same time, the workshop refined its series-production methods and experimented with decoration, including ornamental patterns and trial inlaid models.

When he resumed making instruments in 2022, Khayretdinov proposed naming the new series “Traditional”, in memory of one of Zagretdinov’s early models. The “Ufa” temir-kubyz currently represented in the catalogue has a velvety timbre, clearly distinguishable overtones, high responsiveness and comfortable geometry.
