Tamir Khomatov

Tamir Khomatov is a temir-khomus maker from Abakan. He studied under Vladislav Kokov and learned to make instruments in his workshop. Khomatov’s first temir-khomuses appeared in the Oberton Pro catalogue in 2010 and continued the modern Khakass tradition established in Kokov’s workshop.

In 2012, after Kokov stopped making jaw harps, Khomatov continued working with his model range. In his version of the “Wolf Fang”, he fitted the reed more precisely, aligned it with the plane of the decks and achieved a smoother, cleaner sound. That same year, the maker introduced a smaller version of the classic model, as well as the large experimental instruments “Shaman” and “The Largest Fang”.

Khomatov’s current models vary in size and pitch while retaining a recognisable Khakass design with a blued frame.
