Prokopiy Bygynanov

Prokopiy Nikitich Bygynanov is a khomus maker from the village of Debdirge in the Tattinsky District. By 2009, he had been making khomuses for about ten years. Bygynanov also worked with wood and assembled a large collection of instruments by different makers.

At the international forum-competition of khomus makers held in Yakutsk in 2009, Bygynanov placed fourth overall, behind only the three prize winners. In 2011, he participated in the international “Best Khomus in the World” competition, and in 2016 he received the special “Kömüs Dorghoon” prize at a khomus makers’ competition in the village of Kepteni.

In 2012, Bygynanov joined a delegation of woodworkers and metalworkers from the Tattinsky District that participated in the eleventh session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York. The group also visited Washington during the trip.
