The name African red or mahogany tree (African mahogany) covers all species of Khaya, although their wood may vary in properties, especially in density. K. ivorensis grows in the coastal rain forests of West Africa from the Ivory Coast to Cameroon and Gabon, including Ghana and Nigeria. K. Anthotheca grows in West Africa in areas with less rainfall. In species of ordinary African red, mahogonium, tree, t. Eh. K. ivorensis, K. Anthotheca and partly K. grandifoliola, the core in a freshly cut state is distinctly pink. When drying, it becomes from light pinkish-brown to thick reddish. The yellowish-brown swamp is not always clearly delimited. K's got the core. Grandifoliola is somewhat darker. The fibres are usually tangled. The texture is larger than that of American mahogany (Swietenia spp.). All Khaya breeds are moderately resistant. African breeds of redwood are similar to American red, mahogonium, wood (news) in mechanical properties of wood and surpass it in resistance to splitting.
