Those with a developed ear, with some effort, will be able to distinguish and use a sufficient number of harmonic overtones, but only the crudest changes in sound will be accessible to an inexperienced player. The sensitivity of the jew's harp is high - with a minimum of physical effort it produces maximum volume.
