Musical Instruments Workshop
The Musical Instruments Workshop in Kathmandu makes traditional murchungas with brass and bronze frames in various sizes and shapes.
The workshop’s jaw harps are simple Nepalese murchungas, but their workmanship is somewhat more careful than that of ordinary souvenir instruments. Even gaps prevent pronounced extraneous sounds, while the construction allows the player to strike in both directions.
The BP174 murchunga represented in the catalogue has a quiet, soft and even sound. Its harmonic overtones are reasonably distinct, making the instrument suitable for learning basic melodic playing and pitch control.
